Get Ready for the 2019 Mosaic Film Experience Event

Here is everything you need to know for the 2019 Mosaic Film Experience Event.

For the eight-consecutive year, the Mosaic Event will provide high school students with unprecedented access to nationally renowned film and creative industry professionals. Students will experience a unique, full-day, student-centered digital media and 21st-century career skills.

The Wealthy Theater in Grand Rapids will host high school students from Kent ISD and other Michigan schools on Wednesday, November 6. Thursday, November 7, is reserved for high school students from Grand Rapids Public Schools. The event runs from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

2019 Mosaic Event special guests will present on their industry experience and answer questions from students.

Some of this year’s workshop topics include screenwriting and content creation, led by West Michigan Center for Arts and Technology’s Video Production Teaching Artist and Program Coordinator, Mike Saunders, and digital animation and game design, led by Ferris State University’s Program Coordinator, David Baker. Additional workshop topics to be announced.

This star-studded day also serves as the culmination of the Mosaic Mobile contest, an annual mobile film competition where high school and college students shoot and edit films all on mobile devices. The high school Mosaic Mobile finalist films will be screened at the event, in front of hundreds of students, as well as local teachers and industry professionals. We are also very excited to announce the winning films at the end of the day.

“The Mosaic Film Experience Event provides students from around Michigan with a high energy and fun opportunity to learn about career opportunities they may not have known existed,” said Skot Welch, founder of The Mosaic Film Experience. “The event allows students to see themselves represented in a variety of industries, plus gain a more informed approach to consuming and producing media content.”

The cost is $10 per person and seating is limited to 260 participants. Teachers or parents/guardians can register their students online, and students are not required to submit a film to attend. Please only register the number you plan to attend. Lunch is provided, and payment will be invoiced for the amount registered.
